He smiled calmly, folded his hands casually, and told us about his plans for the future<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"3,4\">. The 19-year-old certainly has reason to celebrate: He is currently among Tanzania\u2019s very best high school graduates in the natural sciences.<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"3,6\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"\" dir=\"\"><span data-path-to-node=\"4,0\">We&#8217;ve known Elia for over ten years<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"4,2\">. As an orphan, he caught our attention back then in third grade at a public elementary school in the Iringa region<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"4,4\">  \u2013 above all, because of his calm, determined manner and his tremendous diligence<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"4,6\">. We then accepted him into our scholarship program and supported him throughout his entire school career<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"4,8\">.<\/span><\/div>\n<p><span data-path-to-node=\"5,0\">The results show just how worthwhile this journey together has been: Elia aced both the Mittlere Reife (Form Four) and the Abitur (Form Six) with the highest possible grade, <i data-path-to-node=\"5,0\" data-index-in-node=\"179\">Division 1<\/i> \u2014and he did so in the challenging subject combinations of physics, chemistry, and advanced mathematics<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"5,2\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"\" dir=\"\"><span data-path-to-node=\"6,0\">Such outstanding achievements do not go unnoticed even at the Ministry of Education<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"6,2\">. At the end of last month, Elia was selected for the coveted <i data-path-to-node=\"6,2\" data-index-in-node=\"50\">Samia Scholarship<\/i> <\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"6,4\">. The Tanzanian government awards this full scholarship only to a hand-picked elite group of the nation&#8217;s top STEM graduates to cover 100 percent of the costs of their entire bachelor&#8217;s degree program.<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"6,6\">. The fact that Elia belongs to this small circle is an extraordinary achievement<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"6,8\">.<\/span><\/div>\n<div dir=\"\"><\/div>\n<p><span data-path-to-node=\"7,0\">Together with Elia, we&#8217;ve already prepared the applications for his three top-choice universities<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"7,2\">:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul data-path-to-node=\"8\">\n<li>\n<div class=\"\" dir=\"\">Mbeya University of Science and Technology (<i data-path-to-node=\"8,0,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"44\">Biotechnology Engineering<\/i>)<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div class=\"\" dir=\"\">Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (<i data-path-to-node=\"8,1,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"52\">Biomedical Engineering<\/i>)<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div class=\"\" dir=\"\">Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology (<i data-path-to-node=\"8,2,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"39\">Biotechnology Engineering<\/i>)<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span data-path-to-node=\"9,0\">Whether in medical technology or biotechnology, Elia has what it takes to make a real difference as an engineer in research or industry<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"9,2\">.
