The challenges of education reform since 2002

With the abolition of school fees for primary schools in 2002, the Tanzanian government launched a far-reaching education reform with a wide range of measures to achieve the Millennium Development Goals in 2010.
The political successes were an explosive increase in school enrolment and, as a result, a significant drop in the illiteracy rate. Without doubt the right steps. And everyone was certainly aware that this would lead to serious problems that continue to this day. Reading studies and reports by Tanzanian and foreign observers and experts today, it would appear that the reform process is far from complete. We at Schulbank lack the expertise to objectively assess the situation. However, during our three-month stay in Tanzania, we were able to form our own opinion on a number of points.
