Every child deserves the chance of a better future. With SCHULBANK scholarships, we give needy orphans access to qualified education – the key to financial security, self-determination and a fulfilling life in their own country. In this way, we not only give them knowledge, but also the hope of a better future.

Background and principles of our work

Educational misery in Tanzania.

At state schools in Tanzania, quality education is the exception rather than the rule. Overcrowded classes, a lack of teaching materials and inadequately trained teachers characterize everyday school life. Those who can afford it therefore send their child to a private school – but for many parents this opportunity is often hopeless.

AIDS – 1.3 million children without parents.

Tanzania struggles with one of the highest AIDS rates in the world, which leads to an alarmingly high number of orphans. These children often grow up in poverty and have little chance of a qualified education, which severely limits their future.

Support development with scholarships from SCHUL BANK

We rely on our scholarship program because we do not invest in educational projects or infrastructure with high administrative costs that tie up funds in concrete and bureaucracy. Instead, we invest directly in young people, believing in the potential of the next generation in Tanzania and supporting them directly on their educational path. It’s not about making decisions for them, but about giving them the opportunity to shape their own lives.

For our supporters, this is the most sustainable form of aid: an investment in talent, not bricks and mortar.

How a sponsorship helps

Our scholarship program is based on a solidarity-based financing model: schools reduce school fees, parents and relatives cover additional school costs, and our education sponsors and other sponsors from Europe close the remaining financing gap. On average, more than 50% of education costs are already covered by Tanzanian participation – a strong sign of community responsibility.

Our educational sponsorships offer meaningful support where sponsors can follow the development of the scholarship holders without being involved in a close, individual child sponsorship. Instead, together with others, they enable a sustainable educational perspective for orphans at the best schools in Tanzania.

Where we work

While most aid organizations concentrate their efforts in northern Tanzania, we deliberately take a different approach. Our scholarship program works in the southern highlands – a region where aid is less likely to arrive, poverty is widespread and AIDS claims a particularly high number of victims. Where the need is greatest, we create educational opportunities for orphans.

Tanzania fears severe drought

Currently, the living situation here in Tanzania is becoming more and more frightening. The cost of living is high and it seems that Tanzanians have given up. In recent years, prices for foodstuffs such as rice and ugali flour have doubled.

Tailwind – When our sponsors talk…

Not only the work with our pupils and students makes our hearts beat faster. If sponsors, after careful examination, consider our work worth supporting, then we feel momentum.

I immediately liked SCHULBANK when I read about it in the Westfälische Nachrichten. A great commitment and the right concept in my opinion. Today I am the sponsor of little Meschack and am happy to be able to help so directly. Who knows, maybe I’ll even visit my godchild. Keep it up SCHULBANK!

Schulbank is accessible to us, not an anonymous organization with a hotline. So we just met up with the Kösters one evening and had them explain to us exactly what school desks are doing in Tanzania. After that, no questions were left unanswered and we know our donations are in good hands.

Donations in education, the transparency of the SCHULBANK, little bureaucracy – all this convinced me to take part. Here I can easily see where my donation will be used and which child will benefit from it. I’m happy to support that.

“I didn’t just want to donate to a big project, I wanted to help people directly. At SCHULBANK e.V., I can see exactly where my support is going – and that makes all the difference for me.”

“No matter when I have a question – the people at SCHULBANK e.V. are always ready to listen. They care, provide information and make you feel like you really are part of this wonderful community.”

“I know the people behind SCHULBANK e.V. personally and trust them implicitly. Their passion and commitment are unique – here I know that my support is in the right hands.”
